Some safety precautions need to be observed when using the Peel Away products.
Always wear long rubber gloves and protective clothing. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes. Peel Away is an alkaline paste that can damage skin. Wear eye or face protection if working overhead. Keep water handy in the work area in case contact with the skin occurs. If contact with the skin does occur, wash liberally with water.

Do not scrape old flaking paint. This would create a hazardous situation regarding the dangers of existing lead. Apply Peel Away directly over existing surface.

Some guidelines need to be followed in disposing of paint waste. For household and small quantities the EPA recommends placing contaminant into thick black tie-up plastic bags and then disposal through the local council garbage collection. For large quantities and all commercial waste disposal refer to strict local EPA guidelines.

Peel Away is particularly suited to the removal of lead based paints and recommended by the EPA as an approved method of lead paint removal.

The safe poultice method of chemical stripping is recommended and is referred to in the EPA 'Lead Alert' guide as a safe method of stripping. Peel Away removes lead based paints in one application in a clean, fast, non toxic manner with minimum clean up or residue. Peel Away allows you to Breathe Easy when removing old lead based paints. Causes of lead dust and excessive exposure to lead can contribute to infertility, miscarriage, increased blood pressure, premature births, anaemia and kidney damage. With a million houses in Sydney alone that are potentially harmful because of lead paint, Peel Away is an important product that provides a safe solution to the problem of removing this paint.

Unsafe home renovation and maintenance was responsible for nearly all cases of children being admitted to hospital with lead poisoning in recent years.

The NSW Government and the Environmental Protection Authority are concerned about the health risks associated with Lead Based paint in homes. Many studies have provided conclusive evidence of the danger of lead around our homes and buildings. The latest EPA study has identified that 1 million homes around Sydney are potentially harmful to children because of lead paint. These findings prompted a $300 000 advertising campaign to warn the public of the dangers of lead particularly relating to renovating and painting older homes. Of particular concern was the stripping of old lead based paint.

Children, pregnant women and trades people are at particular risk of ingesting lead.
Normal dry sanding, scraping, grinding or open flame methods of paint stripping should not be used in any paint removing (see EPA Lead Alert Guideline listed below)_

Homes painted prior to 1970 (don't forget all those layers under the new ones!) probably contain lead based paints.
